About Us

The Royal Tank Regiment Association has its headquarters in Bovington, Dorset and is a Registered Charity.  It is a national organisation and its aim is to promote the efficiency and espirit-de-corps of the Regiment.  The aim is achieved by:

    * Coordinating, advising and assisting local branches of the Association.

           * Assisting members and ex-members of the Regiment to find emplyment after leaving the service.

                      * Assisting, through the services of the Benevolent Fund, members and ex-members.

The Cymru Wales Branch works towards re-establishing the comradeship that existed whilst serving in the Regiment and to that end we aim to provide:

    * Opportunities to meet fellow tankies and comrades

            * Opportunity to trace old comrades

                  * Monthly Social Meetings

                        * Organised Trips and Visits to Places of Regimental Interest.

                               * Welfare Support to Those in Need.

We are always pleased to see new faces at our meetings and social events.  If you would like to join us then please scroll down for further details.

 **** Latest News -  November 2014 ****

It is with great sadness that I post news that Tony Clark recently passed to the green fields.  Tony was ex-5RTR, loyal Secretary

of our branch for more than 35 years and a dear friend to all of us.  His family are very much in our thoughts at this sad time.

RIP Tony - Thanks for everything.  We Will Remember You.

Members have been made aware of the funeral arrangements in Cardiff.  Any queries - contact Glyn or Terry.

Previous 2013 / 2014 News

October 2014: There was no official meeting in September but quite a few members gathered as usual.  We were treated to a Film and Photo display of

the Amalgamation Parade that took place at Bulford Camp back in August.  Everyone enjoyed the day very much even though we got a

little wet at the start of the parade.  Some photo's will be posted here soon.

Thanks to our Standard Bearer who at the last minute carried our Standard at the WWI Commemoration Service held at St. Margaret's Church,

Mountain Ash back in August.  The service was also attended by Glyn and Jonathan - who incidentally was playing the organ!!

A meeting was held in October to discuss the practicalities for the many activities coming up in November - See Events List above.  Contact

Terry or Glyn if unsure about anything.   10 are going to Bovie and 6 to London, which is excellent.  Well Done to all...enjoy.

We continue to try and keep in touch with members unable to see us regularly at meetings in Cardiff.  If you read this and are feeling neglected

please get in touch and we will fix it.  Sadly, we heard that our former Secretary Tony suffered a stay in hospital after a fall.  Get well soon.

July 2014: Amazing attendance once again at the July meeting even with a few regulars missing.  Members were treated to a slide show of a recent visit

to Tankfest.  Several members attended Armed Forces Day Cardiff, which once again was a good day out. Very good to see Peter marching!!

Soon we'll be off to join the Regiment for the Amalgamation Parade.  For those who maybe unaware,  1RTR & 2RTR will be merged

to form "The Royal Tank Regiment".  This is a very historical move and great that so many of our branch have agreed to attend. Members will have

been informed of the final arrangements by now. It promises to be a good day out...fingers crossed that the rain keeps away for a while longer.

Also, this weekend there will be a number of services in churches and at war memorials to commemorate the start of WWI on 4th August 1914.

So its appropriate at this time that we remember specifically all those who were setting off 100 years ago to far off lands not knowing quite what

they were going to face up to..."We Will Remember Them"

Date of next meeting to be confirmed...

June 2014 : Apologies from the Webmaster - Updates have been slow...to say the least.

A meeting was held in June with an outstanding attendance.  The Treasurer was delighted with the collection!  Members have decided to

attend Tankfest and will travel in various cars. There is an alternative option on the same day (28th June) to attend Armed Forces Day in Cardiff.

Terry will circulate tickets for the Veterans tent, as required.  Plans are still afoot for the Amalgamation Parade so keep the 2nd August free.  We will

be going and hopefully will make a weekend of it.  Please share your thoughts on this.  Next Meeting on 10th July.  Hope to see you all then.

April 2014 - A number of members attended the Church Service and Curry Lunch at Bovie in March. We were delighted to welcome a new member

at the April meeting. Full update will follow soon. Try and make the May meeting guys - it's on the 1st May - usual place.

Jan 2014 - Greetings to all from the Webmaster - The photo album links have been fixed. All that is lacking now are some pictures of recent events

to add to the Album. If you have any please share for all to see.  I have added an additional music link for the Regimental March. The old one

didn't seem to work on Windows 8...why I don't know. If you click the link you can relish in "My Boy Willie"!!   The diary has been updated

and there are plans for a Lunch for members and wives sometime on a Saturday or Sunday in early March.

2013

Dec 2013  A meeting was held in December and we were delighted to welcome a new member, Allan - formerly 4RTR.  November as usual was a busy month.

We sadly said a final farewell to member Joe Griffin 50th RTR (Age 93). Joe served from D-Day until Berlin.  Glyn and Terry attended the funeral at Glyntaff

Crematorium and it was Glyn's turn to step in as relief Standard Bearer. He did a fine job but fear naught Keith - your role is very safe!

Joe and his family had only recently discovered our Branch and were regular attendees at the Cardiff Remembrance Parade.

Our Branch was once again represented at the Remembrance Parades at Cardiff and London. A few attended the Bovington Cambrai Lunch.  An

additional day trip was organised to meet some RTR friends in Babbacombe.  Other news - the RTR are now back from Afghan. All Good wishes

to all for 2014.

Nov 2013 : AGM was held on 7th November as planned and the existing officers listed above were re-elected for another year.  The chairman was

delighted that  members attended the Garden of Remembrance Service at St. John's Church on the 2nd and that there was a great attendance at today's

Remembrance Parade in Cardiff.  Those of you with a keen eye may have noticed member John Cosh on TV.  He attended the

2013 Festival of Remembrance at the Albert Hall and there was a great shot of him just after the Chelsea Pensioners arrived!

On Friday, 15th Nov, Terry and Glyn are off to Bovie for the Cambrai Lunch and Keith and Lee will represent our Branch at the London Parade the

following Sunday.

Oct 2013 : A meeting was held at the Columba Club on 3rd October and Terry informed members of a wide variety of things going on in

November.  Concensus was that doing everything would be too much but we would try and make Remembrance Sunday a

priority as usual.  Full details from Terry.

We were pleased that back in July Terry was able to assume the job of Relief Standard Bearer and attend the Funeral

service of the late Richard Edgecombe (ex 4RTR).  All went well and the family really appreciated Terry's presence.  It's such a shame

that we never met Richard.  Our thoughts are still with 2RTR currently serving in Afgan but their return is imminent.

Notice of the AGM will be sent out soon. Please try and attend.

Sept 2013: Apologies from your webmaster - Updates have been too slow of late.  Please try to attend the October Meeting for a full

update from Terry.  Hope all is well out there at home and away.

May 2013: The trip to Alrewas is happening on the 12th June and this event will be significant as it is likely to be the last time that the 1RTR

& 2 RTR Standards will be on parade together before the proposed MOD reforms take place in 2016.  About 5 or 6 members

are going and details will be communicated in due course.  It was decided not to attend the lunch as catering facilities are available at the

Arboretum and there is a lot to see.

Click herefor an update on the Slapton visit.  Thanks to all who made the trip so worthwhile. It wasgreat to catch up with members of other

branches.   Next meeting is likely to be on 6th June as per schedule.  In the meantime, we remember all those members of our regiment

serving in Afgan.

May 2013  - Terry has sent out an e-mail message with details of the trip on 12th June.  Please make contact and confirm asap if you wish to go

so that he can sort out the logistics.  The event kicks off at 12.00 with a buffet lunch afterwards.  Full discussion at the meeting on

9th May. Hope to see you.

April 2013 - The May meeting has been fixed for 9th May. Hope to see you all then.  Five members attended the Operation Tiger

Anniversary at Slapton Sands last weekend.  They all had a great time and a full report will be given in the next meeting. A summary will

be posted here soon.

A meeting was held at the Columba Club early in April with only one item on the Agenda - Slapton Sands.  5 members will be

representing the branch at the Official Commemoration Dinner and Service of Remembrance.  Since the meeting, sadly we have to report that

member and friend, Bryan McVitty has passed to the Green Fields.  Our thoughts at this time are with his family.  Terry has sent a letter.

March 2013 - Terry has sent out information on the Slapton Trip. If you have not received the information or have questions then contact Terry

urgently.  Meeting confirmed for 14th March in the usual place.

February 2013 - A gathering was held at the Club on Thursday and the only item up for discussion was the trip to Slapton Sands (26-28 April).

A few members are keen to go and it looks very much as if transportation could consist of just 2 cars this time.  Please contact Terry urgently if you

missed the meeting and wish to join us.  We need numbers to organise accomodation and establish the cost of the trip.  Click the link in the

events calendar for more info but be sure to speak to Terry asap.

January 2013 - Due to an unscheduled spell at home because of snow your webmaster has been challenging his brain cells.  Now it's your turn.

At the top of the page you may have noticed a rectangular black box. For those who are not computer whizz kids...this links to a very familiar tune.

The start/stop button is the small arrow in the top left hand corner.  Be sure to have your computer speakers switched on. Click the button and listen.

Be sure to switch off or it will drive you crazy.  Happy listening and take care in the snow.  February meeting on the 7th - usual place.
